The above photo shows massive Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian territory on May 22nd, which included attacks on the Russian capital, Moscow.
Russian air defenses reportedly intercepted more than 150 Ukrainian drones over several regions, including areas near the capital, in what appears to be one of the largest such aerial assaults, Russia’s Defense Ministry said on May 22, reported The Kyiv Independent.
For at least two days in a row, Ukraine has launched massive waves of drones deep into Russian territory. Between the evening of May 20 and the morning of May 22, Russia claims to have shot down 485 drones on its territory.
According to the Russian military, 159 drones were destroyed between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Moscow time on May 22. The ministry said Ukrainian drones were intercepted across multiple central and western regions, including Moscow, where 22 drones were reportedly shot down. The surrounding regions of Kursk, Oryol, Tula, and others also came under attack, with dozens of drones intercepted in each area.
Russia is responding in-kind, upping the ante with close to 400 strike platforms being fired overnight against targets across Ukraine.
“We can see how the Ukrainians attack our social infrastructure facilities, civilian infrastructure. These are retaliatory strikes, strikes on military facilities and military targets,” declared Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, reported Russian state news agency TASS.
Reports are the volley was also in response to an alleged targeting of Russia President Putin’s helicopter as he visited a battlefield location in Kursk, reported ZH.
The Kremlin as well as Russian state media are alleging a huge, potentially conflict-altering incident which will surely escalate the war in Ukraine – an attempted attack on Russian President Vladimir Putin himself.
A high-ranking Russian military commander on Sunday described that last week, as Putin traveled to the Kursk region for the first time since is liberation after 6+ months of Ukrainian occupation, Ukraine tried to attack Putin’s helicopter mid-flight, sending a wave of drones to swarm the flight path of the chopper.
The presidential helicopter was caught in the “epicenter” of a massive Ukrainian drone attack, commander of an air defense division in Kursk, Yury Dashkin, told Russian media. The headline is the top featured story of English-language RT on Sunday, something which suggests the allegations are largely aimed at grabbing the attention of the West.

President Trump lashed out yesterday against both leaders, saying Putin had ‘gone crazy’ targeting civilians for no reason, and that Zelenskiy was prolonging the conflict.
Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov said Trump’s comments represent emotional overload at the moment.
The developments come as Ukraine is very concerned as Russia ramps up drone production, outpacing use on the battlefield, and outpacing Ukranian production capabilities.

Ukrainian skies saw over 2,000 Shahed drones in 20 days. On May 24–25, Russia launched 300 drones and 69 missiles; the night before, 250 drones and 14 ballistic missiles, reported FT.
The increased aerial warfare tempo comes as reports Russia massing troops on the border with Ukraine north of the Donbass region, in a possible bid to acquire more territory before a ceasefire is signed.
In some ways, this activity could signal the climax of the war, as both sides look to present the strongest hand possible in the coming next round of negotiations in Istanbul. However, the risk is high, the conflict could morph into a larger regional war.
