“[DHS is] almost derelict in its duty by resisting our requests for documents, evidence and information that are necessary to investigate.”

Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), who is leading a probe into the now two assassination attempts against former President Donald Trump, has threatened to use “subpoena power” to force the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to stop “stonewalling” his committee with its requests for information regarding the two assassination attempts on former President Donald Trump.

Blumenthal is chairman of the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations (PSI) under the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee (HSGAC). He said on Monday that DHS has been stonewalling the subcommittee and said the Biden-Harris department is “almost derelict in its duty by resisting our requests for documents, evidence and information that are necessary to investigate.” The senior Democrat said he is “angry” at the way he and the committee have been brushed off by the DHS.

“We may need to require more cooperation from them. And we have the power to do so through the compulsory process. In other words, the subpoena power,” he said, Just the News reported Tuesday.

Trump has been the target of would-be assassins twice in just over two months. On July 13, a gunman’s bullet hit Trump’s ear, barely missing the back of his head. On Sept. 15, a second event occurred when Ryan Wesley Routh, a 58-year-old Democratic activist was accused of attempting to assassinate the former president and current Republican presidential candidate with an AK-style firearm. Routh had been camping out on the perimeter of the West Palm Beach golf course for 12 hours ahead of time.

Blumenthal, a senior senator who often butted heads with Trump, has already said that the subcommittee’s report on the first assassination attempt will “shock” and “appall” Americans.

Blumenthal told Fox News, “I think the American people are going to be shocked, astonished, and appalled by what we will report to them about the failures by the Secret Service in this assassination attempt on the former president. But I think they also ought to be appalled and astonished by the failure of the Department of Homeland Security to be more forthcoming, to be as candid and frank, as it should be to them in terms of providing information.”
