Cuban President Confirms Talks With U.S. Centered on Bilateral Points – Journal Posts
Miguel Díaz-Canel, Cuba’s president, confirmed Friday that his government has held talks with the United States, saying the discussions aim to resolve bilateral disputes through dialogue and identifying problems between the two countries that require solutions.
The confirmation is the first time Havana has publicly acknowledged the discussions and follows recent comments from President Trump, who has said the United States and Cuba are engaged in high-level discussions and predicted the communist government would collapse.
Díaz-Canel said Cuba is willing to have these talks “on the basis of equality and respect for both countries’ political systems, sovereignty and self-determination of our governments.”
