The FBI celebrates another ‘terror plot’ foiled, but a closer look at the case of 18-year-old Christian Sturdivant reveals a disturbing pattern of federal entrapment, not heroic law enforcement. The Department of Justice announced the arrest of Christian Sturdivant for planning a New Year’s Eve attack on a grocery store with knives and hammers. The official story claims authorities stopped a self-radicalized ISIS supporter.
The DOJ’s claim that Sturdivant ‘self-radicalized online’ directly contradicts their own criminal complaint. Records show he was in communication with two undercover FBI agents posing as ISIS members. According to the affidavit, Sturdivant began communicating with an ‘online covert employee’ (OC) on December 12th. He sent his pledge of loyalty to ISIS to the FBI agent. He discussed his plans with the FBI agent. The entire plot developed under the guidance of the very people claiming to have stopped it.
This is not ‘self-radicalization’; it is direct influence and grooming by federal agents. The FBI was not a passive observer; they were active participants and mentors in the ‘plot,’ a fact that demolishes the official narrative.
Manufacturing a ‘Terrorist’
The FBI appears to have taken a troubled, impressionable young man and molded him into the ‘terrorist’ they needed him to be. Sturdivant’s plan, which involved attacking a grocery store with knives and hammers, sounds more like the fantasy of a disturbed teenager than a sophisticated terror plot. His own family, concerned for his well-being, hid the knives and hammers from him.
The FBI, instead of seeking mental health intervention for a vulnerable individual, saw an opportunity. They provided the audience and validation he sought and encouraged his fantasies until the FBI could label the resulting actions “material support for terrorism.” This case mirrors the pattern of other FBI entrapment operations, where the agency targets vulnerable individuals, supplies them with means and motivation, and then claims victory over a threat the agency itself cultivated.
The Charge vs. The Crime
Sturdivant faces charges of ‘attempting to provide material support to ISIS,’ a charge that carries a 20-year maximum sentence. This severe penalty applies to what amounts to online chats with FBI agents and a handwritten note. He never acquired a firearm. His ‘weapons’ were household tools his family tried to keep from him. The ‘material support’ was a pledge of loyalty sent to an FBI inbox.
The entire case rests on the idea that talking to FBI agents who are pretending to be ISIS is the same as aiding a foreign terrorist organization. The severe charge serves as a tool to legitimize the entrapment operation. It creates the illusion of a serious national security threat, when in reality, it was a manufactured crime with a manufactured villain, designed to produce headlines and justify the FBI’s counter-terrorism budget.
The Christian Sturdivant case is not a story of a terror plot foiled, but of a troubled young man targeted and groomed by the FBI.
