Climate scientists are fearing they will lose their jobs amid looming funding cuts when President-elect Donald Trump takes back the White House in January.

Scients at the annual American Geophysical Union (AGU) meeting in Washington, D.C., expressed fears Trump’s new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), headed by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, will target climate research.

Climate security program manager at Pacific Northwest Laboratory, Jill Brandenburger, told Politico, Everybody at AGU is nervous. The unknown is what makes people nervous.”

Scientists also raised alarm that the second Trump administration may be more hostile to research that highlights federal regulations on environmental health and climate

Scientists from various government agencies, including NASA and NOAA, may soon encounter situations that could jeopardize their work and result in unemployment.

The scientists are now whining that they will become political targets.

The Post Millenial reports:

Fear has been exacerbated following the announcement of DOGE. The commission, which Musk and Ramaswamy head, is responsible for reducing the size of the government by implementing funding cuts. This has raised concerns that federal climate science initiatives may be among the first to be eliminated.

Trump’s administration proposed the elimination of NASA Earth observation research funding and the purging of climate information from federal websites during his first term.

Additionally, Trump promoted individuals who opposed climate science to critical roles within the White House and prominent agencies such as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Andrew Dessler, president of AGU’s global environmental change section, said climate scientists are “exhausted” by their research being targeted.

“It’s not so much that we people have evidence that it’s going to be bad.”

“It’s just that if you look at what they say, that’s clearly what they want to do,” he said.

Earlier this month, Trump announced plans to roll back the Biden administration’s climate policies by appointing Former New York GOP Representative Lee Zeldin as his administration’s new ‘Energy Czar.’

“I am deeply honored to have been asked by President Trump to serve in his Cabinet,” Zeldin said in a statement.

“As EPA Administrator, we will restore American energy dominance, revitalize our auto industry to bring back American jobs, make the United States the global leader of Artificial Intelligence advancement, and slash the red tape holding back American workers from upward economic mobility.”

“We will accomplish all this while conserving our environment, protecting access to clean air and water, and keeping the American people healthy.”

“I look forward to contributing to President Trump’s agenda to build a more prosperous future for our nation,” he concluded.
