Chloe Kim Injured After ‘Silly’ Fall Whereas Coaching for 2026 Winter Olympics
Chloe Kim is being cautiously optimistic as she navigates a sudden setback on the road to the 2026 Winter Olympics.
The two-time Olympic gold medalist, 25, took to Instagram to share an emotional update after suffering an injury while training in Switzerland. In a video posted to her account, Chloe revealed that a “silly” fall during practice left her with a dislocated shoulder and plenty of unanswered questions.
“I hate that I have to make this video but I just felt that it was necessary, so here we go,” Chloe began. “I’ve been here for a couple days, I’m currently in Switzerland and on my second day of training I took the silliest fall.”
The snowboarder then showed footage of the moment, explaining that she landed awkwardly on her arms while committing to a jump. “And that ultimately resulted in me dislocating my shoulder … Just so fun,” she said with a mix of humor and frustration.
Despite the injury, Chloe emphasized that she’s trying to stay positive — even as she waits for more clarity. “Trying to stay really optimistic, I think I don’t have much clarity right now because I haven’t got an MRI yet but it’s scheduled for tomorrow so anyways I should have a better idea of what’s going on tomorrow,” she shared. “Positive things is I have range, I’m not in that much pain — obviously I just don’t want it to keep popping out which has happened.”
While the uncertainty is tough, Chloe made it clear she’s confident in her overall progress. “I feel really good about where my snowboarding is at right now so I know that the minute I get cleared and am good to go I should be fine,” she said, adding, “I’m just hoping that doesn’t take too long.”
The timing is especially significant as Chloe prepares for what could be a historic moment at the 2026 Milan Winter Olympics. If she wins gold in the women’s snowboard halfpipe, she would become the first athlete to ever achieve a three-peat in the event.
Just days before the accident, Chloe opened up to People about her mindset heading into the Games. “I think the pressure I feel is wanting to do the best that I can and see what happens from there — but I just really want to enjoy this journey more than anything I think,” she said.
“At each Olympics I always go into it with a new set of goals,” Chloe added. “And I think this time I just really want to enjoy the experience and have a good time.”
The Milan Games will mark Chloe’s third consecutive Olympics, following her gold-medal wins in PyeongChang in 2018 and Beijing in 2022. As she waits for answers, one thing is clear: Chloe Kim is determined to take this setback in stride — and keep her focus on the bigger picture.
