Caught on Camera: Democrat Lawmaker Arrested for Shoplifting at Target
A Democrat seemingly suffering from kleptomania was arrested after shoplifting from his local Target, according to reports.
Connecticut state representative Raghib Allie-Brennan was caught shoplifting at the Bethel Target outlet store after an employee noticed he failed to scan several items.
Allie-Brennan then proceeded to leave the store without paying for the items before being stopped by staff members.
This isn’t the first time Allie-Brennan has been caught shoplifting. Target claims they’ve had other run-ins with the politician.
“During a recent visit to the Bethel Target, two items in my armload of others were not scanned,” the Democratic lawmaker wrote on Facebook, saying he’d been charged with a 6th-degree felony.
“I was in a rush to bring items to my grandmother in the hospital, the store didn’t have bags, and I was juggling multiple purchases,” he continued.
“While I do not have a record, I take full responsibility for the error and am working through the legal processes to resolve the matter quickly and respectfully,” he added.
“I respect the law and Target’s right to enforce their loss prevention policy, and I remain committed to serving my community with transparency and integrity.”
“A Bethel police summary of his arrest stated Allie-Brennan was detained by Target loss prevention personnel who told police they recognized him from ‘previous unreported larcenies.’”
He was arrested after police reviewed security footage showing him attempting to leave the store with $26.69 in unpaid merchandise.
Allie-Brennan, a four-term lawmaker first elected in 2018, did not respond to a request for comment beyond his statement on social media.
According to Western Journal reporter C. Douglas Golden, asset protection personnel took action against Allie-Brennan after watching him slip the noose multiple times.
“[T]his, instead, feels a lot more like the treatment given to someone who had already been caught on camera in ‘previous unreported larcenies’ but who hadn’t been confronted by security.”
Repeat Offenses by Democrats
This seems to be a common occurrence with Democrats.
Earlier this year, the U.S. Justice Department indicted Massachusetts State Rep. Chris Flanagan after he pocketed $30,000 from his employer to pay various credit card debts.
Months earlier, a Democratic Boston city councilor was charged with stealing taxpayer money through a byzantine bonus scheme with one of her staffers.
Former Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) reported to prison this month to serve out an 11-year sentence after pleading guilty to accepting bribes, including dozens of solid gold bars.
Finally, former Congressman George Santos (R-NY) was convicted last year of wire fraud and identity theft and will serve his 87-month sentence beginning in July.
