BREAKING: US-Iran Talks Referred to as Off – JP

Today, JP reported that “meaningful talks between the United States and Iran [would] have to include Tehran’s missile arsenal and other issues, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said, as Tehran said it would only discuss its nuclear programme, not its missiles.”
Rubio added that “I know of no other country where there’s a bigger difference between the people who lead the country and the people who live there” and that “I’m not sure we can reach a deal with these guys.”
U.S. officials stated they rejected Iran’s last-minute demands to shift the venue from Istanbul to Oman and switch to a bilateral format, which would limit discussions strictly to nuclear issues, excluding U.S. priorities like missiles and regional proxies.
Earlier Axios indicated Iran made these demands to avoid broader topics, and at that point, it seemed the U.S. might have agreed to move to Oman.
But the US changed its mind. As a result, according to Axios, the planned U.S.-Iran nuclear talks for Friday are collapsing. A senior U.S. official said, “We told them it is this or nothing, and they said, ‘OK, then nothing’” per Belaaz.

After talking to Iranian diplomats, senior officials from Qatar, Turkey and Saudi Arabia now reportedly believe that Friday’s negotiations with the U.S. will not lead to any concrete solution, as Iran has not moved an inch on its demands; the officials said ‘war is inevitable.’
U.S. officials told JP that Trump is now leaning toward military action in Iran.
In a meeting with Steve Witkoff yesterday, Israeli officials noted that the Iranian regime is uniquely vulnerable following the massive domestic protests and the subsequent international outcry over mass executions. Israel urged the U.S. to use this “maximum pressure” window rather than settling for a partial nuclear deal.
In light of this new development, tomorrow (Thursday), Netanyahu will hold a security assessment with defense chiefs regarding Iran. Israel agrees that the possibility of American military action looms.
Meanwhile on Iranian TV, the broadcast scheduled for tonight to unveil a new Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) ‘missile city’ has been canceled, due to ‘military and security considerations.’
