Seven Democrat Senators and one Democrat-leaning independent sided with all but one Republican in passing the resolution.

The Senate voted 60-40 on Monday night to pass a continuing resolution to fund the government, bringing the US one step closer to reopening the federal government after weeks of Democrats continuously voting down resolutions. The bill now heads back to the House, which is expected to reconvene as soon as Wednesday, per CBS News.

Seven Democrat Senators and one Democrat-leaning independent sided with all but one Republican in passing the resolution. Senator Rand Paul was the one GOP Senator to vote against it.

The resolution includes three full-year appropriations bills, including the full funding of SNAP through next September, and keeps the majority of the government running through January 30. It does not include the extension of OBamacare subsidies that Democrats had been fighting for.

New Hampshire Sen Jeanne Shaheen, one of the Democrat Senators to vote for the resolution, told reporters before the vote, “This was the only deal on the table. It was our best chance to reopen the government and immediately begin negotiations to extend the ACA tax credits that tens of millions of Americans rely on to keep costs down.”

Sources familiar with a call House Speaker Mike Johnson had with House Republicans on Monday morning said Johnson is confident that they will be able to pass the Senate’s government funding package.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries said his part is “focused on dealing with the bill that’s coming over from the Senate to the House, and we’re going to fight hard to defeat it.” When asked if the government shutdown was worth it, he replied that Democrats “waged a battle on behalf of the American people.”
