BREAKING: Investigators Probe Potential Link Between Cybertruck Explosion, New Orleans Attack

0

Multiple sources have revealed that both the Tesla Cybertruck that exploded outside President-elect Donald Trump’s Las Vegas hotel, and the white pickup truck used in the terrorist attack that killed at least 10 in New Orleans on Wednesday morning, were rented on the same app, according to a report from ABC News.

Officials have cautioned that the situation is “fluid” in regards to both investigation. State and federal officials are currently investigating whether the Cybertruck — which was detonated with considerable force just outside the Trump Hotel’s main doors — was blown up in an act of terrorism. Sheriff Kevin McMahill of the Las Vegas Police Department further confirmed that investigators are working to determine whether the blast is connected to the attack in New Orleans.

The situation in New Orleans is rapidly evolving as well, as federal investigators are currently looking for multiple individuals who may have planted explosive devices around the city’s famed French Quarter ahead of the attack. Law enforcement recovered at least one explosive device from the deceased suspect’s vehicle, in addition to an Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) flag that was attached to the truck’s bed.

At least three additional devices were discovered elsewhere in the French Quarter, including two pipe bombs that were placed inside coolers and rigged to detonate remotely.

A few hours after the New Orleans attack, several sources told NOLA.com that Shamsud Din Jabbar, the deceased attacker, rented the vehicle through an app called Toro. The company is a car rental marketplace that allows users to rent cars from “trusted hosts” across the United States, Canada, Australia and France, according to the app’s description on Google Play.

Shortly before 4 p.m. Western Time, Clark County law enforcement officials announced that the detonated Cybertruck was rented in Colorado and arrived in Las Vegas shortly before 7:30 a.m., local time. ABC News is now reporting that the Cybertruck was also rented through Turo.

In a brief press conference held from Camp David, President Biden confirmed that the FBI is investigating whether the two incidents are connected. “Additionally, we’re tracking the explosion of a cyber truck outside the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas. Law enforcement and the intelligence community are investigating this as well, including whether there’s any possible connection with the attack in New Orleans,” the president said.

“Thus far, there’s nothing to report on that score at this time. I directed my team to make sure every resource, every resource is made available to federal, state, and local law enforcement, to complete the investigation in New Orleans quickly, and to make sure there is no remaining threat to the American people.

Despite the rapidly evolving situation, acting special agent in charge of the FBI’s Las Vegas Field Office, Jeremy Schwartz, told reporters that there is no active threat to the public in Las Vegas. He added that federal investigators will continue working to determine any potential link.

Investigators are currently working to identify driver of the Cybertruck, who was killed when the vehicle detonated. The driver was the lone fatality in connection with the incident, while seven additional people were transported to area hospitals with injuries.

Officials have confirmed that the Cybertruck was indeed detonated intentionally. The vehicle was loaded up with fireworks and other explosives, causing the explosion to expand upwards through the vehicle as opposed to the surrounding area.

This is a developing story.
