BREAKING: GOP Candidate Surges To Seven-Level Lead In Excessive-Profile Race

Republican Attorney General Jason Miyares is leading Democratic challenger Jay Jones by seven points, according to a new Quantus Insights poll of 1,302 likely Virginia voters. The survey puts Miyares at 49 percent to Jones’s 42 percent — the widest margin of any statewide race tested, and one that suggests the GOP’s top law-enforcement officer remains the party’s strongest incumbent.

Miyares’s advantage appears driven by his incumbency and reputation from a string of high-profile legal battles that have boosted his standing among older voters and independents. By contrast, Jones has been hobbled by controversy over resurfaced 2022 text messages in which he made violent remarks about a leading Republican, including fantasizing about “two bullets to the head.” Though he later apologized, the episode has shadowed his campaign and become a focal point in the race.

Elsewhere on the ballot, Democrats are clinging to narrow leads. Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger holds a 51-to-46 edge over Republican Lt. Governor Winsome Earle-Sears in the race for governor — a five-point spread that underscores Virginia’s split personality.

Democrats continue to benefit from the dominance of Northern Virginia’s blue suburbs, while Republicans remain deeply rooted in rural and exurban regions. Among independents, Spanberger leads by about eight points, but both parties’ bases remain firmly locked in.

The lieutenant governor’s race mirrors that divide. Democrat Ghazala Hashmi leads Republican John Reid 49 percent to 45 percent, thanks largely to an advantage with women and younger voters under 45. Reid counters with strong backing among white men and rural communities, keeping the contest within reach for the GOP.

The Quantus Insights survey also captured the broader political makeup of the electorate. Forty-six percent of respondents identified as Democrats, 40 percent as Republicans, and 14 percent as independents — a swing bloc that could prove decisive in close contests.

Looking back to 2024, the voters polled by Quantus reported supporting Kamala Harris over Donald Trump by a margin of 51 to 45, suggesting that the sample aligns closely with Virginia’s recent voting trends.

For now, the numbers show Virginia remains a battleground, but one where Republicans’ best hope for holding ground may rest with Miyares — the lone statewide contender posting a clear lead at this stage in the race.
