BREAKING: Fani Willis Hit With Contempt Of Court Motion After Defying Subpoena

Ashleigh Merchant, an attorney for one of Trump’s co-defendants in Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis’ highly controversial racketeering case focusing on Trump’s objections to the 2020 election results, has filed a new contempt of court motion against the embattled district attorney.

According to a new motion  — which was first reported on by legal analyst Phil Holloway — Merchant accused Willis of defying a subpoena requiring her to testify at an evidentiary hearing scheduled for tomorrow, September 19, 2024. The motion further calls for Willis to be held in contempt if she refuses to comply with the subpoena by tomorrow’s deadline.

“According to social media posts, as of September 17, 2024, Ms. Willis was in Los Angeles, California attending fundraising events for her re-election campaign,” the motion continues, noting that Willis appears to have no intention of showing up for the September 19 hearing.

“Counsel for Ms. Willis indicated yesterday that Ms. Willis did not intend to appear for the hearing, but that she might be willing to appear by Zoom if Plaintiff would agree,” the motion continues. While the plaintiff was open to a Zoom hearing, attorneys asked Willis’ legal counsel when her travel plans were made. They also asked for Willis to explain the nature of the trip and why she will not be able to attend the hearing.

Willis’ attorneys responded by confirming that Willis would not be attending the hearing, neither in-person or over Zoom.

“Ms. Willis is under lawful subpoena, and she has not filed a motion to quash, nor could she. She is simply flouting this Court’s lawful process, apparently intent on playing a game of chicken with the Court,” the motion states.

The latest motion provides yet another legal hurdle for the embattled district attorney, who rose to national prominence by bringing the sprawling case against Trump and his associates.

The Fulton County D.A. is currently fighting to stay on the case after one of Trump’s co-defendants filed a motion to dismiss the case. While a Fulton County judge ruled that Willis can stay on the case, the matter is currently being debated by an appellate court.

Whether the case ever resumes again or not, it has already been significantly wounded, as a Fulton County judge recently tossed portions out.
