Brad Schimel Tied With Pro-Abortion Susan Crawford in Wisconsin Supreme Court Race
The Wisconsin Supreme Court race is shaping up to be a highly competitive and closely watched contest, with conservative candidate Brad Schimel now tied with liberal candidate Susan Crawford.
Recent polling shows the two candidates in a dead heat, highlighting the stark ideological divide between them. Schimel, a former Wisconsin Attorney General, is running on a platform that prioritizes judicial restraint, law enforcement support, and the protection of constitutional freedoms. In contrast, Crawford is backed by progressive groups and holds a pro-abortion stance, making the race a key battleground for Wisconsin’s judicial future.
Schimel’s strong credentials and commitment to upholding the rule of law have earned him the support of many conservative voters. During his tenure as Attorney General, he focused on combating crime, defending religious liberties, and protecting individual rights. His judicial philosophy emphasizes interpreting the law as written rather than legislating from the bench. Supporters argue that his presence on the court would help restore balance and prevent judicial activism, which they believe undermines the will of the people.

Meanwhile, Susan Crawford’s pro-abortion stance has made her a favorite among progressive voters and advocacy groups. She has received backing from organizations promoting expanded abortion access and other liberal policies. However, critics contend that her judicial philosophy is driven by political activism rather than an impartial application of the law, raising concerns about fairness and judicial overreach.
Joshua Mercer of the pro-life group CatholicVote recently emailed LifeNews about the race.
“Two weeks ago, we were the underdogs in the Wisconsin fight. But all the momentum is on our side. That’s right. The race is tied,” he explained.
“Recent polling shows a 47-47 deadlock between Brad Schimel and Judge Susan Crawford, with 5% still undecided. The Wisconsin Supreme Court contest is down to the wire – every vote, every ad, every dollar counts right now,” Mercer added.
“On April 1, the future of the Wisconsin Supreme Court – and Catholic values in this battleground state – will be decided. That’s why the far-left is pouring millions into this race. A Crawford victory could dramatically alter the course of abortion laws, voter ID requirements, and religious freedom in Wisconsin. We cannot let that happen,” Mercer continued.
The outcome of this race could significantly influence the ideological makeup of the Wisconsin Supreme Court. With several key cases expected to come before the court in the coming years—ranging from abortion regulations to election integrity—voters are keenly aware of the stakes. A Schimel victory would tilt the court toward a more originalist and restrained interpretation of the law, while a Crawford win could entrench a more activist, left-leaning majority.
Conservatives view this race as an opportunity to protect Wisconsin from what they see as judicial overreach. They argue that the courts should not serve as a tool for political agendas but rather adhere to the Constitution and the rule of law. Schimel’s supporters point to his track record of standing firm against federal overreach and defending conservative principles, making him a reliable voice for judicial restraint.
Conversely, progressives see the race as a chance to solidify a liberal foothold in the judiciary. They hope that a Crawford victory will safeguard abortion access and promote their broader social agenda through the courts. The sharp contrast in judicial philosophies has turned the race into a proxy battle for larger ideological struggles playing out across the country.
As the Wisconsin Supreme Court race remains neck and neck, both sides are intensifying their efforts to rally voters. The outcome will have lasting consequences for the state’s legal landscape, influencing decisions on abortion, voting rights, and other contentious issues. With the race so closely contested, voter turnout and grassroots mobilization will be critical in determining whether Brad Schimel or Susan Crawford secures a seat on the influential court.
