Body of Cybertruck driver Matthew Livelsberger identified through tattoos
The body was burned beyond recognition and officials are still awaiting final confirmation through DNA testing or medical records.
Police officials identified the driver of the Tesla Cybertruck that exploded in front of the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas Wednesday morning through tattoos left on the body, among other things.
According to the Daily Mail, Sheriff Kevin McMahill said that Matthew Livelsberger was identified through tattoos on his body. Among the tattoos that Livelsberger had were an eagle and American flag on one arm, and one of three overlapping crescent moons.
The driver was also identified through photos taken at charging stations, a passport, and a driver’s license.
During a Thursday press conference, McMahill said that while there is substantial evidence suggesting that Livelsberger was the driver, the body was burned beyond recognition and officials are still awaiting confirmation through DNA testing or medical records, per Fox News.
Livelsberger reportedly shot and killed himself in the vehicle prior to the detonation of the vehicle, which blew up outside the hotel on Wednesday morning. A semi-automatic pistol, additional firearms and fireworks were found as well as an iPhone and smartwatch. The handgun was found on the floor at his feet.
Livelsberger rented the truck through the carsharing app Turo, and served in Afghanistan and Iraq with the Green Berets during whiche he saw combat.
