Bluesky Bans Vice President JD Vance Minutes After Joining
Vice President J.D. Vance was banned from the social media platform Bluesky on Wednesday, just minutes after making his first post.
Vance shared a statement on a post regarding the Supreme Court’s 6–3 decision upholding Tennessee’s ban on transgender medical procedures for minors, as reported by The Western Journal.
Vance used his post to address the Supreme Court’s ruling and included part of a concurring opinion from Justice Clarence Thomas.
The Court’s decision found that states are not in violation of the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment when they ban medical interventions like hormones and puberty blockers for minors.
Chief Justice John Roberts stated that the case involved “fierce scientific and policy debates” and that the Equal Protection Clause “does not resolve these disagreements.”
He added: “Nor does it afford us license to decide them as we see best.”
Roberts was joined by Justices Samuel Alito, Amy Coney Barrett, Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Clarence Thomas.
Justices Ketanji Brown Jackson, Elena Kagan, and Sonia Sotomayor dissented.
Sotomayor warned the decision “does irrevocable damage to the Equal Protection Clause.”
Vance wrote:
“Hello Bluesky, I’ve been told this app has become the place to go for common sense political discussion and analysis. So I’m thrilled to be here to engage with all of you.”
He also shared a passage from Justice Thomas’ opinion, which questioned deference to “the expert class” and raised concerns about the medical ethics of allowing irreversible treatments on children.
Vance’s account was suspended after the post.
However, according to the New York Post, Vance’s account was later restored.
Some users on the platform admitted to reporting Vance for “misinformation,” even though his post contained direct quotes from a Supreme Court decision and referenced legal arguments from the Court’s written opinions.
One user posted, “Don’t just block. Report the account and the posts.”
Bluesky, which has become a haven for leftists looking to escape X, has struggled with engagement.
According to analyst Megan McArdle, the platform is down 50% since its post-election spike in late 2024.
