Bad Bunny sparked controversy at Tuesday night’s New York Yankees game after remaining seated during the performance of “God Bless America.”

As fans rose to their feet during the seventh-inning stretch to sing along, the Grammy-winning artist stayed seated, a moment captured in a live photo obtained by TMZ. The crowd could be heard belting out the lyric “stand beside her and guide her” as the Puerto Rican star appeared unfazed.

The rapper and singer, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, has faced heightened scrutiny in recent weeks following his announcement as the upcoming Super Bowl halftime show headliner. Critics have taken aim at his past comments on U.S. immigration enforcement and his decision to perform primarily in Spanish.

Bad Bunny attended the game with friends as the Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 9–6.

Bad Bunny also recently said to Americans, “If you didn’t understand what I just said. You have four months to learn.”

Among those who took issue with the announcement that Bad Bunny was going to play the Super Bowl halftime show were Trump adviser Corey Lewandowski and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, who both suggested that immigration enforcement agents could be present at the event.

Bad Bunny has previously stated: “People from the US could come here to see the show. Latinos and Puerto Ricans of the United States could also travel here, or to any part of the world. But there was the issue that … ICE could be outside (my concert venue). And it’s something that we were talking about and very concerned about.”
