Austin Butler’s Behavior Was Going to ‘Doom’ Kaia Gerber Relationship

Austin Butler and Kaia Gerber did not part on good terms when they went their separate ways earlier this year and a source exclusively tells Life & Style that the supermodel isn’t holding back as she opens up in vivid detail when friends ask her what went wrong!

“Kaia and Austin’s relationship ending was a slow motion car wreck that everybody saw coming a mile away,” the source says. “Absolutely, the knee jerk reaction is that Austin’s, cocky wild boy behavior was going to eventually doom them, because Kaia is such a polite, civilized and humble girl by comparison.”

Kaia, 23, and Austin, 33, first sparked romance rumors in December 2021 after being spotted attending a yoga session together. They made their red carpet debut as a couple a few months later in March 2022. Since then, the pair has made it a point to keep their romance away from the public eye as much as possible, despite attending a few high-profile events together and flaunting a bit of PDA in front of the cameras.

Fans thought the couple were headed down the aisle after purchasing a house together in May 2023. At the time, celebrity gossip Instagram account Deux Moi claimed that the actor “proposed back in April, but [he and Kaia] want to keep it low-key.”

“Austin Butler [and] Kaia Gerber just bought a house together … do we think this is the next step???” Deux Moi captioned its Instagram video post.

Unfortunately, the three-year romance came to a standstill in January after TMZ reported the two had parted on good terms. However, the source tells Life & Style that the model “had a right to bristle” the Elvis actor, adding, “nobody around her was mistaking him for some innocent angel.”

“He is who he is and as much as Kaia tried to change him, the only way he stops drinking and gives up his childish antics is if he makes that decision himself,” the insider explains. “And in Austin’s defense, he has gotten very famous very quickly and executives suck up to him and young women go nuts for him when they see him in person.”

The insider says that there is a “growing sense” among Austin and Kaia’s mutual friends that the Dune actor “blew it with this one, and it’s starting to become a pattern.”

“Vanessa Hudgens is a wonderful, amazingly cool and talented person and Austin just stood by and let that relationship totally implode over basically the same issues,” the source reveals. “He doesn’t have any patience for a grown-up, serious relationship at this point in his life.”

Before dating Kaia, Austin was in a long-term relationship with Disney alum Vanessa Hudgens. The two reportedly met in 2005 on the set of High School Musical but didn’t make their red carpet debut as a couple until February 2012. They were together for nearly nine years before calling it quits in January 2020. Vanessa went Instagram official with her now-husband, Cole Tucker, only one year later in February 2021.
