Armed gunmen rob NYC Gucci store in broad daylight, police search for suspects
Police are searching for suspects after a Gucci store in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District was robbed at gunpoint on Monday.
The three alleged perpetrators were caught on camera making off with an estimated $51,000 worth of luxury goods, all while staff and customers looked on.
According to ABC7, the incident took place around noon at the Gucci on the corner of W 14th and 9th.
Surveillance footage shows three masked individuals entering the store, with the first brandishing a handgun. After pointing it at the security guard and telling him to stand back, two members of the trio moved in, jamming everything they could get their hands on into giant cloth sacks.
The third suspect was waiting outside with what appeared to be a firearm. Bags and luggage in tow, they all jumped into a black Honda CR-V and reportedly drove off into New Jersey via the Lincoln Tunnel.
Bystanders said they were shocked by the brazenness with which the robbery was carried out.
“It’s very daring in the middle of the day for someone to rob a very high-end store at gunpoint and put all the poor people there at risk,” one woman told ABC7.
In an interview with CBS New York, a man said the fact that the suspects carried firearms in such a crowded area was “particularly disturbing.”
Residents and business owners in the normally peaceful neighborhood were shocked by what happened, with some taking extra precautions to avoid becoming victims. Sandro, which faces W 13th Street on the same block as Gucci, even went so far as to lock their doors and only let customers in by request.
Police released images of the suspects, two males and one female, and urged anyone with information leading to their whereabouts to come forward.
