AOC admits there’s major insider trading among Dems in Congress
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) revealed to Jon Stewart that Democrats engage in insider trading in Congress. She pointed out the “hypocrisy” of the Democrats in Congress engaged in it. Stewart was glad to hear someone finally say it.
During The Weekly Show episode, Ocasio-Cortez joined Stewart to speak about a number of topics, such as the election of Trump but also getting Democrats to “walk the walk.”
“There needs to be Democrats who walk the walk and talk the talk. There is an insane amount of hypocrisy, and the hypocrisy is what gets exploited to use the cynicism and wherever there’s a hypocritical window. For example, I think one of the biggest examples of this is insider trading in Congress,” the lawmaker said.
Ocasio-Cortez as well as others have called for banning elected officials from stock trading to prevent insider trading by Congressmembers. “It’s so crazy. I mean, like, it’s the end of the thing. Like, people think that every day people are stupid. I’m like, ‘do you all really think that people don’t see this sh*t?’” Ocasio-Cortez added.
Stewart added that lawmakers are able to “sit on a committee” to get information regarding upcoming business deals and government contracts and are then are able to use that information to bolster their investment portfolios.
Ocasio-Cortez added, “And then we’re supposed to act like money only corrupts Republicans? Give me a f*cking break.”
Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), in particular, has been accused of such trading activity. There is trading software based on her investment activity available for purchase. Stewart said that the lawmakers effectively “run the casino” as they are able to regulate different industries where they can make financial gain.
