Amy Schumer Shuts Down Movie Critics With Nikki Glaser's Support
Amy Schumer got some poor reviews for her recent comedy Kinda Pregnant, but a source exclusively tells Life & Style that she’s feeling super optimistic about her performing future and leaning on close pals including fellow standup queen Nikki Glaser.
“She hasn’t seen a lot of people drop out of her orbit in the 10 years since she broke through to the big leagues in 2015. Jen Lawrence is still one of her best friends, and even though Nikki Glaser has become a major star in her own right, she has also stayed incredibly loyal to Amy and has become one of her biggest defenders in Hollywood,” the insiders add.
Despite some of the criticism over her new film, it did perform well on Netflix and was a success for Amy, 43. The movie garnered 25.1 million views in the first few days after release on February 5, and was also the streaming platform’s most-watched title of the week.
“And it was a global sensation, with viewers around the world pushing the film into the Top 10 in 92 countries,” per Netflix’s Tudum.
The flick followed her character Lainy who had dreams of settling down and starting a family, only to discover her best friend is expecting when she goes through a sudden breakup.
Lainy later fakes a pregnancy and gets caught up in a fantasy path to motherhood, especially since she accidentally falls for her dream guy. What starts as a small fib spirals into a full-blown charade as she tries to conceal her secret.

“Amy has decisively proven that when she makes a comedy movie, her fans will show up in big numbers, no matter what the critics say. She needed to deliver a hit and she deserves a lot of credit for doing exactly that,” sources tell Life & Style.
“The good news is that Amy finally has her swagger back and her latest Netflix project was a solid hit and funny enough that it really shut up Amy’s critics and put her on solid ground.”
The tipsters noted that becoming a mom to 6-year-old son Gene motivated Amy “to make adjustments to her busy schedule and inevitably caused her to slow down a little.”
Amy welcomed her first child with husband Chris Fischer in May 2019 around the same time Meghan Markle gave birth to her baby boy. The I Feel Pretty star shared the news with a nod to the Duchess of Sussex. “10:55 p.m. last night,” she wrote in the caption. “Our royal baby was born.”
During a recent interview with Audacy, the actress spoke about the intention of her latest film, which delivers laugh out loud moments as well as some serious undertones.
“We’re trying to show these different aspects of like, not every woman who gets pregnant is over the moon the whole time,” Amy said about Kinda Pregnant. “The trauma [of pregnancy and birth] get just kind of brushed over — especially in movies — you really don’t see very much of that, so to get to take a minute and express that stuff in a comedy and make it palatable where you can still be on this ride — that is what we’re most proud of.”
