Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Breaks Silence After Privileged Upbringing Exposed
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) came out in defense of her “Bronx girl” narrative after a Republican state assemblyman revealed her yearbook photograph from an affluent suburban high school.
State Assemblyman Matt Slater demolished Ocasio-Cortez’s rags-to-riches narrative with the yearbook find amid an ongoing social media battle between her and President Trump.
The exchange began when Ocasio-Cortez demanded Trump’s impeachment over unauthorized airstrikes against Iran.
Slater then challenged Ocasio-Cortez’s claims about her Bronx identity before posting a freshman yearbook photo from Yorktown High School.
The Republican lawmaker accompanied the image with direct questions about her suburban upbringing in Westchester County.
“If you’re a BX girl then why are you in my Yorktown yearbook?” Slater wrote on X.
“Give it up already.”
He shared two images: a black-and-white photograph of a young Ocasio-Cortez and the 2004 Yorktown High School yearbook cover.
Yorktown Heights sits approximately 40 minutes from the Bronx, nestled in affluent Westchester County.
Images of Ocasio-Cortez’s childhood home in Yorktown Heights began circulating, which reportedly carries a current value exceeding half a million dollars.
AOC was then forced to address allegations about her privileged upbringing.
“I’m proud of how I grew up and talk about it all the time! My mom cleaned houses and I helped. We cleaned tutors’ homes in exchange for SAT prep,” she responded on social media.
She then maintained that her experiences living between both locations shaped her political worldview.
“Growing up between the Bronx and Yorktown deeply shaped my views of inequality & it’s a big reason I believe the things I do today!”
However, Slater dismissed her explanations as nothing more than a false narrative.
“She’s embarrassing herself for doing everything possible to avoid saying she grew up in the suburbs instead of the Bronx,” Slater stated.
“She has said she visited extended family, she has said she commuted. Now she’s in between. It’s clearly desperate attempts to protect the lie that she is from the Bronx.”
The assemblyman provided specific details about Ocasio-Cortez’s residence.
“The truth is AOC is Sandy Cortez who went to Yorktown High School and lived at the corner of Friends Road and Longvue Street,” he told the outlet.
According to public records, Ocasio-Cortez was born in the Bronx but relocated to Yorktown Heights at age five.
She then completed her education at Yorktown High School before attending Boston University.
The dispute emerged from Ocasio-Cortez’s criticism of Trump’s military actions against Iran.
AOC called for impeachment following the deployment of bunker buster bombs against Iranian nuclear facilities.
“The president’s disastrous decision to bomb Iran without authorization is a grave violation of the Constitution and Congressional War Powers,” she declared Saturday.
“He has impulsively risked launching a war that may ensnare us for generations. It is absolutely and clearly grounds for impeachment.”
Trump responded by challenging the congresswoman directly.
“Stupid AOC, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, one of the ‘dumbest’ people in Congress, is now calling for my Impeachment, despite the fact that the Crooked and Corrupt Democrats have already done that twice before,” he wrote.
Trump also questioned Ocasio-Cortez’s qualifications for office, adding that she opposes American success because Democrats “aren’t used to winning.”
Ocasio-Cortez invoked her Bronx identity when responding to Trump.
“Also, I’m a Bronx girl. You should know that we can eat Queens boys for breakfast. Respectfully,” she wrote, referencing the president’s Queens upbringing.
“Mr. President, don’t take your anger out on me – I’m just a silly girl,” she wrote.
“Take it out on whoever convinced you to betray the American people and our Constitution by illegally bombing Iran and dragging us into war.”
