Want to know when a CEO has lost the plot? Listen to their company’s board talk when everyone is behind closed doors.
For example, I recently sat in a board meeting at a firm most people would recognize. A board member looked at his team and said: “Just figure out how we’re going to make the number in July.” Not “Let’s address why revenue is declining.” Not “what strategic pivot do we need?” Just make the number for one more month.
