Abigail Spanberger Places Abortions As much as Delivery Measure on Virginia Poll
On Friday February 6th, Gov. Abigail Spanberger signed the bill that send the deceptive and misleadingly labeled “Right to Reproductive Freedom Act” to the fall ballot. While that is the only official role Spanberger has to play formally in this process, she has been outspoken in her support for the passage of this extreme and reckless amendment to the Virginia Constitution.
Now it is indeed, as she has said, up to the voters of Virginia to cast the deciding votes.
Unfortunately, the proposed language that was passed in both Chambers of the pro-abortion controlled General Assembly does not present an accurate understanding of exactly what the Act will do to the status of abortion law in Virginia. In fact, it is incredibly deceptive and downright misleading.

Attempts by pro-life members of the General Assembly to draw attention to this problem during floor debates were ignored by the pro-abortion majority. The only conclusion that can be drawn is that those pushing this amendment forward don’t want Virginians to know what they are really voting on.
One key point in the newly drafted ballot language that is of particular concern is the line that reads “protect doctors, nurses, and patients from being punished for these decisions.”
The amendment itself says this: “The Commonwealth shall not penalize, prosecute, or otherwise take adverse action against any individual for aiding or assisting another individual in exercising such other individual’s right to reproductive freedom”.
This change presents a very clear problem since voters will not understand that the language of the Amendment means that the state will not be able to hold any one accountable for having violated existing state laws, including Virginia’s Parental Consent Law, or for performing abortions without proper medical license or training, thereby putting women as well as their babies in danger.
It also suggests that there is a desire in some parts to punish women, but that has never been something anyone in the mainstream pro-life community has wanted. We understand that far too often women are the second victims of unscrupulous abortionist or under pressure form others to abort their babies.
So, as if the Amendment itself was not dangerous enough, It is now even more important for concerned Virginias to become thoroughly educated on exactly what that amendment will do to Virginia ability to protect women and babies going forward.
We must help our friends, our churches, and our families realize that this amendment it designed to do one thing and one thing only: to provide abortion promoters with a place to operate without oversight of any kind.
This has nothing to do with protecting women’s ability to receive legitimate reproductive health care. The bill that Gov. Spanberger signed last week proves that.
This ballot question is all smoke and mirrors.
Don’t be fooled.
Tell everyone to vote No this fall!
