Megan Rapinoe Raps Sophie Cunningham: Still Wants Men in Women’s Sports
The obscure comedy Ladybugs features a businessman-turned-coach who, desperate to help his struggling girls’ soccer team, dresses a talented boy as a female and puts him on the roster. At the film’s release, in 1992, this was considered the stuff of fiction — utterly ridiculous.
Today it’s considered, well, leftist dogma that it should be allowed.
Enter ex-professional soccer player and current devoted leftist Megan Rapinoe. She’s again agitating in favor of men in women’s sports and against common sense, this time targeting Sophie Cunningham. Cunningham is the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) player who recently made news by opposing the men-in-women’s-sports (i.e., “trans”) phenomenon.
Now, there’s an irony here. Without sexually segregating sports, Rapinoe wouldn’t have had a career and no one would’ve heard of her. This is not opinion. It isn’t unusual for professional women’s soccer teams to lose to 14-year-old boys. In fact, Rapinoe’s own team, the U.S. Women’s National Team (reigning world champs at the time), lost to the FC Dallas under-15 boys squad 5-2 in 2017. One of Rapinoe’s teammates, Carli Lloyd, made no bones about this, either. “They should beat us,” she said of the lads in 2023. “Bigger, stronger, faster!”
The final three words well explain why males should be barred from females’ sports — but not according to Rapinoe. And she’ll slam anyone saying otherwise. As sports website The Spun reports today:
On the debut episode of her Why Are You Like This? podcast, Rapinoe accused Cunningham of contributing to the ongoing villainizing of transgender people through her embrace of activists such as Riley Gaines.
“If anybody is taking these talking points as legit — or believing they’re protecting young girls in sports — I just have to ask: ‘Are you serious?’” Rapinoe said. “I don’t know Sophie so I can only project what I see about her beliefs based on her actions.
“And seeing a picture of her with [ex-college swimmer] Riley Gaines after the game told me everything I need to know about what’s happening. Riley Gaines has made it her life’s mission to exclude trans people from public life.”
Exclusion
Now, Rapinoe doesn’t mention that Gaines herself was excluded in 2022, from a college-meet top-finishers podium, because a “trans” man occupied that place instead. She also watched that man, Will (aka “Lia”) Thomas, exclude other women from top positions at the event. (He won the meet’s 500-yard freestyle.)
The point really is, however, that we do and should exclude people in life — that is, on the correct basis. There are age groups in athletics (e.g., 14-and-under), and they exclude those not in the given age ranges. There are weight classes in fight sports, and they exclude those not in the given weight ranges. For that matter, keeping score or clocking times and determining winners excludes the less capable from getting awards and accolades.
Oh, “But regarding, for example, weight classes, you always have your own weight class to compete in,” say some?
Yes — and MUSS (Made-up Sexual Status, aka “transgender”) individuals likewise have their own sex group to compete in. Only, this is supposed to be the one aligning with their biology (reality) — not with their “identity” (fantasy).
Method to the Madness
As for Rapinoe, her rationale, or rationalization, for allowing MUSS males in females’ sports is that they’re “also young girls.” This has been refuted repeatedly, including by me, so I won’t reinvent the wheel here. I’ll simply quote former Australian “transsexual” Alan Finch. “You fundamentally can’t change sex,” he said after becoming older and wiser. “Transsexualism was invented by psychiatrists.”
What should be addressed, however, is a question befuddling many: Why is this even an issue? Why have the Democrats made the MUSS agenda a hill they’ll die on?
One fairly popular theory among conservatives is that it’s a way of detaching people from critical, logical thought. It’s a technique for conditioning them to accept whatever absurdities authorities demand acquiescence to. This certainly is a “sexy” thesis, but as Occam’s razor would inform, the actual explanation may be far simpler.
To wit: Remember that Democrats have for decades now relied on rallying so-called “victim groups” to win power. They say, essentially, “You’ve been held down and oppressed by _______. But vote for us; we’ll protect you and secure your place at the table.”
This only works, however, if you have enough victim groups to assemble a winning coalition. Thus do the Democrats have a vested interest in continually creating more victim groups. This is especially true since, in more recent elections, they’ve lost portions of two of them: blacks and Hispanics.
This explains the ever-metastasizing alphabet crew — “LBGTQ+.” Every new letter represents another victim-group voting bloc. Oh, some blocs may be small, but they have enablers, too. And put all these blocs together and you can build your Brave New Girl (and World).
The Madness to the Method
This said, the above only explains why left-wing politicians, who worship power, support the MUSS agenda. It doesn’t explain Rapinoe or the following, courtesy of Marca. The sports news website euphemistically writes that
multiple WNBA figures have [also] expressed support for more inclusive policies toward transgender athletes.
Indiana Fever coach Stephanie White, Minnesota Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve, and Golden State Valkyries coach Natalie Nakase have all spoken in favor of inclusion.
These people really believe, or pretend to believe for personal gain, that we can will ourselves into the opposite sex. This brings me back to that largely forgotten ’90s movie Ladybugs.
At the film’s end (spoiler alert), the coach fields an all-boys baseball team, in wigs, to win a girls’ league title. This hints at a remedy. As I wrote on X Monday (tweet below quotation), responding to commentator Clay Travis:
Seriously, some filthy rich guy should start a franchise (without telegraphing his intentions) and then recruit players who just weren’t quite good enough to make the NBA. All they have to do is “identify as female.”
They then can clean up every WNBA team they play 150-2.
This would be a great object lesson in reality for the WNBA lunkheads. And keep it up until they cry “Uncle!”
It’s easy being idealistic when you don’t have to live with your ideals.
People advocating insanity absolutely should get visited with their own ideals — good and hard.
