Patrick Mahomes Reacts to Criticism After Hitting Chiefs Teammate in the Head With Football

Patrick Mahomes really fumbled this one.

The 30-year-old had a bit of a slip up while practicing at the Kansas City Chiefs’ training camp on Aug. 1. While attempting to throw the football to wide receiver Andrew Armstrong, the quarterback hit offensive lineman Hunter Nourzad in the back of the head.

While he received some criticism after a video of the incident went viral on social media, Mahomes took the feedback on the chin, jokingly comparing his arm to one of the clumsy players from 2004’s The Longest Yard.

Posting a gif from the film—taken from the scene in which Brucie (Nicholas Turturro) fumbles a pass to Paul Crew (Adam Sandler)—Mahomes quoted, “It slipped. I just ate popcorn.”

Indeed, Mahomes and the rest of the Chiefs are easing back into training after an eventful off-season. After all, they were in attendance as star tight end Travis Kelce tied the knot with Taylor Swift at a massive star-studded wedding in Madison Square Garden on July 3.
