San Francisco 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan is on the mend after a tragic accident.

The NFL team announced that its head coach was injured in a car accident amid the league’s summer break and will participate in training camp in a limited capacity during his recovery.

“San Francisco 49ers Head Coach Kyle Shanahan was involved in a car accident last week where he suffered non-life-threatening injuries,” the 49ers shared in a statement on the team’s social media channels July 25. “Coach Shanahan will participate in team activities on a limited basis at the start of training camp while he recovers. Coach Shanahan and the 49ers organization would like to sincerely thank all first responders involved for their efforts and care.”

On July 14, Shanahan—who has been the head coach of the 49ers since 2017—crashed into an SUV near his home in northern California, suffering a concussion, breaking his nose, multiple ribs and his hand, according to multiple outlets, citing sources close to the situation. The 46-year-old also reportedly required 40 stitches in his face.
