Abortion Activist Mitchell Creinin Admits Abortion Pill Reversal is Safe
Look up any media assessments of the abortion pill reversal (APR) and one name you’ll likely find prominently mentioned is Mitchell Creinin.
Creinin is one of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists’ recognized “clinical experts” on “medication” or chemical abortions and admits to performing abortions on “more than 5,000 women,” most with mifepristone.
(Chemical abortions typically involve two drugs – mifepristone to block progesterone and shut down the baby’s life support system, and misoprostol, taken a few days later to stimulate powerful contractions to expel the emaciated child.)

But one of the things he is most widely known for is a clinical study of APR that he conducted in 2019 and published in 2020. That study and Creinin’s analysis have been repeatedly cited by detractors to claim that APR – the use of progesterone to counteract the abortion pill mifepristone – is, at best, unproven and unethical, and at worst, dangerous and ineffective.
All this makes Creinin’s recent admissions about APR safety in a California deposition late last year quite remarkable.
In that deposition, while Creinin said that he generally doesn’t “recommend” progesterone for women (he admits to using it for women with a history of miscarriage), he admitted that, “In the short term, it’s safe.”
He also later agreed under oath that “progesterone probably won’t hurt a woman if she’s under medical supervision.” (Depositions of Mitchell Creinin in People of the State of California Heartbeat International, Inc., and Real Options, Inc., 10/10/25, p. 71 and 11/6/25 pp 548-9).
Creinin still sought to maintain that there was no evidence that APR worked and stood by his study that appeared to associate failure to take the full abortion pill regimen with severe bleeding.
Creinin’s statements don’t amount to an admission that APR works, but it does undercut the popular claim advanced by the media, the medical establishment, and the abortion industry that APR is dangerous and needs to be limited or prohibited.
