As We Have a good time America’s 250th Anniversary, Bear in mind Each Child Has a Proper to Life

As the United States approaches the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, Americans have an opportunity to reflect on the foundational truths that shaped our nation. Chief among them is the recognition that every human being is endowed by their Creator with the unalienable right to life. This principle remains at the heart of today’s most pressing moral and political debates.

Yet as this anniversary draws near, Congress faces a decision that will test its commitment to that first and most fundamental right. In just a matter of weeks, the one-year provision that halted federal taxpayer funding for abortion providers is set to expire. Unless lawmakers act before the July 4 deadline, federal dollars will once again flow to organizations that perform and promote abortion.

Last year pro-life advocates and lawmakers marked a significant achievement. After much diligent effort, Congress passed a measure to strip federal funding from abortion providers for one year. That victory did not come easily. It required steadfast leadership, strategic persistence, and a willingness among pro-life members of Congress to stand firm in defense of the unborn. For many, it was a tangible step toward aligning federal policy with the principle that every human life deserves protection.

However, that progress was always temporary. The provision was structured as a one-year pause, not a permanent reform. As a result, the gains made last July now hang in the balance. Without renewed action, the policy will lapse, and federal tax dollars will flow to abortion providers.

This moment presents a clear choice for Congress. Lawmakers can either reaffirm their commitment to protecting innocent human life or allow taxpayer funding to resume for entities that profit from its destruction. For pro-life Americans, the stakes could not be higher. Federal funding is not merely a budgetary question, it is a moral one. It forces citizens to subsidize practices that many believe fundamentally violate the right to life.

As Independence Day approaches, the symbolism is difficult to ignore. The same date that commemorates America’s founding now serves as a deadline for a decision that touches on one of its founding ideals. The words of 1776 are not merely historical artifacts, they continue to challenge each generation to consider how those principles are applied in law and policy.

The coming weeks will reveal whether Congress is prepared to act. Pro-life advocates across the country are urging lawmakers to extend the defunding provision and build upon last year’s success. They argue that failing to do so would represent not just a policy reversal, but a step away from the nation’s founding commitment to the right to life.
