Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is reportedly being considered for a role within the Trump Administration, according to a new report from Axios.

According to the report, which cited anonymous sources within the White House, President Trump told confidants that DeSantis had expressed interest in positions within the administration, including attorney general. “Ron was begging me to be AG,” the president reportedly said.

Six sources briefed on the discussions told Axios that DeSantis has also shown interest in secretary of defense and a Supreme Court seat. These conversations reportedly intensified after recent dismissals, including those of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and Attorney General Pam Bondi.

Prior to the report, DeSantis and Trump met for lunch last weekend in South Florida. “There was a conversation at that lunch. I don’t think AG is real. But he’s gonna be looking for work and Trump likes him,” one unnamed source told the outlet.

“DeSantis is 100% not interested in the AG job, but he would be interested in two things: War secretary or Supreme Court, which would be his dream job,” another source familiar with the discussions said. The same source noted that DeSantis and Justice Clarence Thomas “almost have a father-son relationship and would be a hell of a legacy for Trump.”

A DeSantis spokesperson threw cold water on the report when asked for comment, however. They stated that the governor “enjoys a great relationship with President Trump” and that “some in the media prefer to focus on fake rumors rather than the many accomplishments of Florida’s partnership with the Trump administration.”

The spokesperson added that DeSantis looks forward to continuing work with Trump on enforcing immigration laws, restoring the Everglades, and reforming college athletics.

DeSantis had discussed potential appointments with Trump after the 2024 election, including the possibility of leading the Defense Department. Trump ultimately selected Pete Hegseth for that role, though sources indicated Trump would consider DeSantis for defense secretary if Hegseth were to leave.

Relations between Trump and DeSantis, which included a competitive 2024 Republican primary, have been described by advisers as improved, with one stating “bygones are bygones.” Another adviser noted reservations about DeSantis for attorney general due to trust considerations at the Justice Department.

On the topic of potential Supreme Court nominations, Trump stated during a recent interview with Fox News that he was “prepared” for potential nominations, stating, “It could be two, could be three, could be one. I don’t know — I’m prepared to do it.”

He also addressed to questions surrounding the potential retirements of Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito. He described both justices as “brilliant” and hoped they could serve for decades more, but further emphasized that he is prepared for any scenarios.

Both Alito and Thomas have denied rumors that they are considering retirement.
