Sure, Save the Whales – However Drill Child Drill

Via Committee to Unleash Prosperity:

Let’s get one thing straight. We all love whales and sea turtles. But we also love an American energy-dominance strategy that means we no longer have to worry about Middle Eastern oil.

Today, several members of the Trump cabinet will meet with Interior Secretary Doug Burgum to formally suspend the Endangered Species Act in the Gulf of Mexico and approve drilling in an environmentally safe way. This is one of the world’s richest oil regions.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has declared this a national and economic security imperative in light of events in the Middle East.

But the left-wing Center for Biological Diversity claims sea turtles and whales would be imperiled. The Center contends that there are just 51 “Rice’s whales” left in the world, all in the Gulf.  (Are they sure they got an accurate tail count?). This whale was, until a few years ago, considered a Bryde’s whale, one of the world’s most abundant, with an estimated global population of 100,000. Mitochondrial DNA analysis was used to rename the tiny Gulf population of these whales as their own species, which has been disputed.

The green groups have sued to stop drilling.

Why not allow drilling and use a portion of the royalties for environmental protection? The Feds should also impose stiff financial penalties on the oil and gas industry if the waters are polluted as an additional insurance measure to ensure spillages don’t happen. That way we save the whales and get the oil.
