Already, some people are drawing parallels between this disappearance and Nancy Guthrie’s in Arizona.
Men’s Journal via Yahoo News noted the similarities:
Maj. Gen. William McCasland was the Commander of the Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio. In that position, he was “responsible for managing the Air Force’s $2.2 billion science and technology program as well as additional customer-funded research and development of $2.2 billion,” his U.S. Air Force bio says.
That’s a powerful position and, now, McCasland has mysteriously disappeared. That’s caused some people on social media to draw parallels to the Nancy Guthrie abduction. As with Guthrie, 84, McCasland, 68, is an elderly person with some prominence and medical issues who suddenly disappeared in the American Southwest. Beyond that, though, there is no indication of any connection, and authorities have not said there is; unlike Guthrie, authorities have not said that McCasland, of New Mexico, was abducted, and he’s not getting a lot of news coverage. They’ve issued a silver alert for him.
Two prominent, elderly people vanishing in towns near the border within a short time-frame.
That’s strange enough.
But, this case is bizarre in even more ways…
You see, Gen. McCasland previously ran the Phillips Research Site at Kirkland Air Force Base, which is notable for research into advanced space and directed energy technology.
He also used to be in charge of the Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio — which has long been associated with UFO lore.
🇺🇸A retired Air Force general who ran the labs tied to all those UFO rumors just vanished in Albuquerque and nobody knows where the hell he is.

Gen. McCasland’s name also appeared in leaks of John Podesta’s emails as a “UFO insider.”
Grok explained more about McCasland’s background:
William Neil McCasland is a retired United States Air Force major general and astronautical engineer. He served for 34 years, retiring in 2013. He graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science in astronautical engineering, and later earned advanced degrees, including a PhD in astronautical engineering from MIT.
His career focused on space research, acquisition, and operations. Key roles included Director of Space Acquisition in the Office of the Secretary of the Air Force, Director of Special Programs in the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics, and commander of the Phillips Research Site at Kirtland AFB, New Mexico. From 2011 to 2013, he commanded the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio.
He is currently the subject of a Silver Alert issued by the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office in New Mexico. He was reported missing on February 27, 2026, last seen around 11 a.m. near Quail Run Court NE in Albuquerque. Authorities express concern for his safety due to medical issues, and a search involving local law enforcement and the FBI is ongoing.
His name has been linked to UFO/UAP topics primarily through unverified claims and speculation. In 2016 WikiLeaks releases of John Podesta’s emails, Tom DeLonge (former Blink-182 musician and founder of To The Stars Academy) referenced McCasland as an advisor on potential UFO disclosure efforts. DeLonge described him as knowledgeable on the subject (despite public skepticism), involved in assembling advisory teams, and previously in charge of a laboratory at Wright-Patterson AFB—long tied to UFO lore, including rumors about Roswell crash materials from 1947. Official records show no direct involvement in UFO research; his work centered on defense and national security R&D. His recent disappearance has fueled online speculation connecting it to UFO-related matters, though authorities describe it as a standard missing persons case tied to health concerns.
The labs he ran were primarily under the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), the USAF’s main scientific R&D organization. As AFRL Commander (2011–2013), he oversaw a $2.2 billion annual science and technology program plus $2.2 billion in customer-funded R&D, managing a global workforce of about 10,800 people across various directorates, including the 711th Human Performance Wing and the Air Force Office of Scientific Research.
Earlier, as Materiel Wing Director of AFRL’s Space Vehicles Directorate and Commander of the Phillips Research Site (2001–2004), his focus included space-related technologies.Developments under AFRL during his leadership emphasized advanced aerospace and defense technologies, such as:
- Space systems and vehicles, including satellites, propulsion, sensors, actuators, and fault-tolerant controls for space structures.
- Directed-energy technologies, like high-energy lasers and microwave systems for defense applications.
- Advanced materials sciences for aircraft, spacecraft, and structural enhancements.
- Aeronautics, propulsion innovations, and hypersonic systems.
- Human performance research through the 711th Wing, focusing on warfighter enhancement.
- Sensors and surveillance technologies.
- Classified special programs in space acquisition and experimental defense projects.
These efforts supported national security, with many aspects remaining classified or focused on terrestrial military applications rather than fringe topics. After retirement, he served as Director of Technology at Applied Technology Associates, working on high-performance solutions for ground, air, and space.
This isn’t just any general — it’s a former top-level Air Force research commander.
If anyone knows about highly-classified information about secret UFO programs or military secrets, it’s probably this guy.
So, it’s even weirder that he suddenly disappeared right as President Trump directed agencies to release the UFO files…
Strange timing, indeed.
Retired Maj. Gen. William Neil McCasland is missing. You will recognize his name from the many rumors about him, UFO programs, and Tom DeLonge.
Conspiracy theories will fly, but I do hope he is found safely and gets whatever assistance he may need due to his “medical issues”… pic.twitter.com/JkMmrG7JBA

To add to all of this, Gen. McCasland went missing only weeks after a prominent astrophysicist was shot dead at his California home.
The New York Post reported on that:
Carl Grillmair, 67, a world-renowned researcher at Caltech’s IPAC Science and Data Center, was fatally shot on Feb. 16 at his home in Llano.
Suspect Freddy Snyder, 29, lived just two miles away and had a history of trespassing on the scientist’s property, according to documents obtained by the Los Angeles Times.
Grillmair called authorities to report a trespasser on his rugged, sprawling lot on Dec. 20, according to sheriff’s officials and court records.
When deputies arrived, they found Snyder nearby carrying a loaded, unregistered rifle. He claimed he was walking to the post office and carried the weapon for protection against wild animals. Property records indicate the post office was located in the opposite direction from Snyder’s home, according to the Times.
He was arrested on a felony weapons charge and further accused of attempting to escape the Palmdale station jail the following day, a criminal complaint showed.
At this time, we do not know if Grillmair’s death is connected in any way to the disappearance of Gen. McCasland, and there has been no sign of foul play.
Perhaps it’s just another tragic missing persons case, or perhaps it’s something more.
Either way, please pray that Gen. McCasland is found and brought home safely.
