BREAKING: Investigators Discover DNA That Does Not Belong To Nancy Guthrie In Her House
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said investigators have recovered DNA from the scene that does not belong to missing 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, describing the discovery as a central focus of the case.
“What I believe is what I know is we found DNA,” Nanos told Fox News correspondent Jonathan Hunt during a sit-down interview.
When pressed on whether the genetic material matched the missing Tucson woman, Nanos was unequivocal: “that was not Nancy Guthrie’s DNA.”
The sheriff said authorities are coordinating with a contracted forensic laboratory in Florida to analyze the biological evidence. He noted the process includes collecting elimination markers from individuals connected to the home to help rule out known sources and refine potential matches.

Nanos also addressed criticism surrounding how evidence has been handled, saying his department is working closely with the FBI. He said sending the material to the Florida lab follows established procedures.
The sheriff further clarified that a glove considered potential evidence was not recovered at Guthrie’s residence. Instead, it was located roughly two miles away as part of expanded search efforts.
Even with the investigation intensifying, Nanos emphasized that the operation remains focused on finding Guthrie alive.
“They all have hope and belief that this is a rescue mission.”

Search efforts have included ground teams, aerial support, and coordinated work with federal partners. Investigators have focused on mapping Guthrie’s last known movements and examining activity captured by nearby residential security systems.
Officials have also emphasized that forensic testing remains ongoing. Evidence collected at the home is being analyzed, though authorities have indicated that early results have provided limited clarity.
Family members have continued to make public appeals, urging anyone with information — no matter how minor it may seem — to contact authorities. Those close to the case say investigators are particularly interested in unusual vehicle activity, unfamiliar individuals or suspicious behavior observed in the area in the days leading up to Feb. 1.
Despite the challenges, officials insist the investigation remains active and wide-ranging. Detectives are pursuing multiple avenues to determine what happened and who may be responsible.
