JUST IN: Police Return To Nancy Guthrie’s Residence, Launch Search Of Close by Wooded Space
Investigators returned to the home of Nancy Guthrie, 84, and launched a search of a wooded area not far from the property on Wednesday evening. The latest development comes as the search for Guthrie, the mother of longtime NBC News host Savannah Guthrie, enters its fourth day.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the presence of investigators and instructed members of the media to stay away from the scene due to limited parking. They were instead instructed to head to a new media staging area not far from the property.
Law enforcement personnel conducted a grid search in the area behind her home, according to a report from NewsNation correspondent Brian Entin.
Entin further reported that investigators were also seen at Guthrie’s home after they had previously left the property. He shared footage of authorities combing through Guthrie’s garage and reported that several items were taken from the home.

“Investigators are now leaving Nancy Guthrie’s house and taking crime scene tape down,” Entin posted at 5:02 p.m. local time, adding that they were present for about two hours.
The search in the wooded area was prompted by evidence collected from Guthrie’s home, which has been treated as a crime scene since her disappearance. Investigators found signs of forced entry, including blood splatters outside the front door and DNA samples inside that were confirmed to belong to Guthrie.
These findings led officials to conclude she was taken against her will. “She didn’t walk from there” and “didn’t go willingly,” Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said during a press conference Wednesday.
Investigators further disclosed that the home’s Ring doorbell camera had been removed, and authorities are analyzing security footage from the property and neighboring areas. The wooded area was targeted after initial searches of the home and surrounding neighborhood yielded no immediate leads, and tips from the public suggested reviewing nearby natural terrain where evidence or Guthrie herself might be located.
As of the evening of Wednesday, February 4, no significant discoveries have been reported from the wooded area search.
A helicopter was observed surveying the same area the previous day, and drone footage captured ongoing ground operations. Sheriff Nanos noted that search and rescue teams have worked through the day and night, utilizing aircraft, canine units from the FBI, Border Patrol, and volunteer support.
The search comes as authorities continue to investigate the validity of a purported ransom note, which threatened harm if cryptocurrency payments were not made. It also included descriptions of property damage inside the home and has since been forwarded to federal investigators.
No suspects have been named, though the investigation has focused on individuals known to Guthrie, including family members. Nanos added that DNA testing results include “nothing to indicate any suspects.”
Nancy Guthrie was last seen on Saturday, February 1, 2026, around 9:30 p.m., when her son-in-law, Tommaso Cioni, dropped her off at her one-story home after dinner. She lived alone in an upscale, quiet neighborhood characterized by spaced-out homes and minimal street lighting.
A family member reported her missing around noon on Sunday after she failed to attend church, prompting a 911 call. Guthrie requires daily medication for heart conditions, making her recovery time-sensitive.
Investigators have urged anyone with information to come forward, but have also indicated that they have been swarmed with a deluge of fraudulent tips.
“On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers and messages of support. Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear mom,” Savannah Guthrie said in a statement Wednesday.
