It appears Putin has not kept his word.

President Trump on Friday announced, Russia’s President Vladimir Putin agreed not to target Ukraine’s capital city, Kyiv, and energy infrastructure for the next week, but the Russian President has appeared to disregard the agreement.

Reports have surfaced that Russian ballistic missiles and drones have hit key energy infrastructure in Kyiv and its surrounding area.

Here’s a video of some of the damage:

U.S. President Donald J. Trump’s negotiated energy ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine has completely collapsed tonight, with Russia launching a major multi-hour-long drone and missile attack Monday night against several cities and energy infrastructure in and around the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv, targeting power plants, substations, and other infrastructure sites throughout Ukraine. In addition, several high-rise residential buildings in Kyiv and other cities across Ukraine were struck during the attack, all while drones, cruise and ballistic missile continue to be launched by Russia.

NBC News provided details on the ceasefire agreement Trump made with Putin:

Speaking at a Cabinet meeting in the White House on Thursday, Trump said he asked Putin not to fire on Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, “and the various towns for a week and he agreed to do that.”

Without elaborating on when the call with Putin took place, Trump said it was “very nice” that the Russian leader had agreed to his request. “A lot of people said, ‘Don’t waste the call. You’re not going to get that,’ and he did it and we’re very happy that they did it,” Trump said.

Trump did not say when the one-week period would begin and end for Ukraine, which has been hit with bitterly cold winter conditions that have brought hardship on the long-suffering population.

The White House did not respond to NBC News’ request for clarification on when Putin would halt the strikes, whether Trump had agreed to anything in return and what the president would do if Russia started attacking again during the agreed break.

“As President Trump said, he asked President Putin to withhold strikes on Kyiv for one week amid extremely cold temperatures, and the Russian President agreed to do so,” a spokesperson said in an email.

AP previously reported Ukraine and Russia were set to meet in Abu Dhabi, but that meeting may be in the air now:

A new round of U.S.-brokered talks on ending Russia’s war on Ukraine is set to go ahead this week after a brief postponement, a senior Kremlin official said Monday, with negotiations taking place against a backdrop of continued front-line fighting and deadly long-range attacks on rear areas.

The trilateral talks will take place on Wednesday and Thursday in Abu Dhabi, where a previous meeting was held last month, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Sunday that he would be sending a delegation to the meeting, which initially was to be held at the weekend but was delayed by what Peskov said were scheduling conflicts.

The Trump administration has over the past year pushed the two sides to find compromises. But breaking the deadlock on key issues appears no closer as the fourth anniversary of Russia’s all-out invasion of its neighbor approaches later this month.

Peskov described the talks as “very complex.”

“On some issues, we have certainly come closer because there have been discussions, conversations, and on some issues it is easier to find common ground,” he told reporters. “There are issues where it’s more difficult to find common ground.”
