Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., was sprayed with an unknown substance by a man that charged her while she was speaking at a town hall in Minneapolis on Tuesday night.

Omar was immediately pulled away by her security and the unidentified man was tackled and restrained by security. Omar appeared to be shaken, but largely unharmed.

“We will continue. These f–king a–holes are not going to get away with this,” Omar shouted as the room reacted.

“It smells terrible,” a member of her entourage said as she urged her to stop and get checked out.

The incident happened as Omar was hosting her first in-person town hall meeting of the year in North Minneapolis.

Some users on X joked it was Holy Water:

Others pointed out Omar was ready to fight back:

NBC News reported Omar continued her town hall after the incident:

Local leaders who had spoken earlier at the event urged Omar to leave the room and “get checked,” but she said that “is what they want.”

“We will continue,” she said. “These f—— a–holes are not going to get away with this.”

The man was then removed from the room.

Minneapolis police said in a statement that officers “observed a man use a syringe to spray an unknown liquid” onto Omar, adding that the man was then arrested by officers and booked in Hennepin County Jail for 3rd degree assault.

“Representative Omar was uninjured and resumed speaking at the event,” the statement said.
