Theocracy is an “inescapable concept” for any nation, according to Pastor Doug Wilson of Christ Church, speaking at Turning Point USA’s AmFest. Wilson argued that every nation operates under a theocratic framework in the sense that it ultimately serves a sovereign authority or deity. From that premise, he contended that the United States should acknowledge the God of the Bible as its governing authority in an interview with JP’s Andrew Muller at AmFest in Arizona. Wilson, who leads Christ Church with congregations in Washington, D.C., and Idaho, has made a large splash in the media for his stance. Recently, Politico published an investigation of Wilson titled “Doug Wilson Has Spent Decades Pushing for a Christian Theocracy. In Trump’s DC, the New Right Is Listening.” His influence has expanded in part due to the attendance and public alignment of prominent figures in the Trump administration, including Secretary of War Pete Hegseth.
