Ella Cook, 19, and Mukhammad Aziz Umurzokov, 18, were killed in the attack.

The suspect in the Brown University shooting has finally been identified after five days. Police have declined to name the suspect, who has been on the loose since opening fire on students in study hall at Providence’s Brown University on Saturday.

A press conference that was scheduled for 4 pm Thursday was postponed as updates in the investigation were pending. Ella Cook, 19, and Mukhammad Aziz Umurzokov, 18, were killed in the attack.

The car rented by the alleged suspect has been linked to the shooting death of an MIT professor in Brookline, MA as it is believed that the car is the same make and model of a car that has been linked to that shooting. Those who spoke to The New York Times about this detail were not authorized to speak about it.

Earlier on Thursday, local reports stated that authorities believed the two shootings may have been linked. A motive has not been identified in either case.

“An alert issued to the police in the Boston area directed officers to look for the car, and warned that anyone in it could be armed, dangerous and wanted in connection with the Brookline homicide. The alert did not mention the shooting at Brown,” The New York Times reported.

Details have been scant since the shooting, with officers telling the public to look out for persons of interest. Surveillance footage from the crime scene have not provided adequate images of the alleged shooter’s face and police said that they were still working to interview those witnesses who were at the scene.
