17,785 Infants Had been Killed in Abortions in New Zealand Final Yr
The Ministry of Health released the Abortion Services NZ Annual Report 2025, detailing New Zealand’s abortion statistics for the 2024 year – and it’s even worse than we imagined!
– 17,785 abortions were performed in 2024 (an increase from the year before, of nearly 10% on the 16,277 abortions reported in 2023.]
– 164 of those abortions happened at OVER 20 weeks’ gestation (an increase from the year before)
– 389 abortions resulted in complications that were recorded on the day of the abortion (an increase from the year before)
– 7 weeks and under is now the most common gestation at which abortions are performed
– 20–24-year-olds were the age group that accessed the most abortions
– 11,892– 67% of all abortions were EMAs (an increase from the 10,047 EMAs reported in 2023). EMAs [Early Medical Abortions] are up to ten weeks gestation and use abortion pills that may be accessed by telephone and couriered or posted to the women to allow her to have an abortion at home without medical supervision.

As concerning as these figures are, equally concerning is all the information that was MISSING from the report!
Where last year’s report contained 11 sections, this one was cut down to just 7 sections!
Statistics on repeat abortions, number of people who accessed pre-abortion counselling, percentage of midwives involved in providing abortion, enquiries that did not result in abortion, and information on contraceptive use at the time of the abortion (previously 65% of women were not using contraception at the time of conception), were all MISSING from this latest report, despite being regularly included in past years.
Their sudden removal significantly reduces transparency around abortion, and compels us to query why the Ministry wishes to hide this information from public knowledge?
The tragic statistics in this report reinforce how important it is for us to continue promoting the pro-life message. Not only were 17,785 innocent lives lost, but each of those babies had a mother, a father, grandparents, and possibly siblings – all now living with the tragedy of that abortion. Each child was a precious child of God, a unique and unrepeatable miracle of God’s loving creation that was endowed by the Creator at conception with an inalienable right to life.
The overwhelming number of these precious infants was a perfectly healthy child in a normal pregnancy.
