Metropolitan Theodosy Of The Ukrainian Orthodox Church Poisoned – JP

An article published December 5, 2025 in Orthodox Christian reports that His Eminence Metropolitan Theodosy of Cherkasy and Kanev, of the Cherkasy Diocese in Ukraine was probably poisoned but is thankfully recovering.

Toxic heavy metals had been found in his blood panel leading to the speculation that his deteriorating health had been caused by targeted poisoning.

On December 4, 2025 the Cherkasy Diocese issued the following:

Dear brothers and sisters!

We sincerely thank all of you for your fervent prayers for the health of Metropolitan Theodosy!

Today, on the Feast of the Entrance of the Most Holy Theotokos into the Temple, after receiving Holy Communion, Vladyka’s condition began to improve.

Over these past few days, doctors have administered intensive detox therapy and liver-support treatment, along with a wide array of diagnostic tests.

We believe that, through the intercession of Our Most Holy Lady Theotokos and Ever-Virgin Mary, and through the prayers of many Orthodox Christians from around the world, the Lord will raise Vladyka from his sickbed, healthy and whole, for service to His Church and His people.

CDMedia has previously reported on the systemic persecution of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church, the largest Christian denomination in Zelensky’s Ukraine. The article informs that Metropolitan Theodosy had previously been struck in the head in Archangel Michael Cathedral in Cherkasy, miraculously spared more severe injury when his liturgical head covering, called a “klobuk,” gave him unexpected protection.
