Navy Abortions Drop to Lowest Ranges in 5 Years Underneath Trump’s Professional-Life Insurance policies

Abortions funded through the U.S. military’s TRICARE health care system have plunged to their lowest levels in five years, with fewer babies killed in abortions.

The sharp decline is attributed to President Donald Trump’s reversal of Biden-era policies that expanded access to abortions, according to Defense Health Agency records released this month.

The data, disclosed November 20 in response to a Freedom of Information Act request, shows TRICARE recorded just two abortions through June 11, 2025 — compared with 35 for all of 2021 under Biden.

The figures reflect abortions “performed or funded consistent with Title 10, United States Code, Section 1093,” the agency said, a federal law that strictly limits taxpayer-funded abortions to very rare instances of rape, incest or when the mother’s life is endangered.

The downturn follows Trump’s January executive orders to “end the use of Federal taxpayer dollars to fund or promote elective abortion” and dismantle what the Trump admin called the prior administration’s “whole-of-government effort to promote and fund abortion.”

Pro-life advocates hailed the numbers as evidence of renewed commitment to protecting unborn life in the armed forces.

“We know that the Biden administration used every lever at its disposal to push unlimited abortion and this included policy changes in the military. Under the Trump administration, policies pushing abortion have been nullified or reversed,” the National Right to Life Committee said in a statement.

The pro-life organization emphasized the clarity of longstanding federal restrictions, noting, “The law is very clear: taxpayer dollars and military facilities cannot be used for elective abortions. When that standard is followed and enforced, it naturally limits the number of abortions performed.”

National Right to Life also credited the military’s inherent values with bolstering family support amid the policy shift.

“We know the military community has a strong culture of service, mutual responsibility, and support for families,” the group said, adding that priorities like expanded conscience protections for medical personnel and enhanced reporting requirements continue to safeguard life-affirming choices.

The Defense Health Agency noted its data could be updated due to ongoing medical record reviews and claims processing.
