Unmissable deal: Samsung’s new Galaxy A17 hits lowest ever value for Black Friday

0

Black Friday might be almost over, but the opportunity to save money on Samsung’s brand-new budget Android phone is still very much here.

You might have missed the launch of the Galaxy A17 5G and its 4G sibling a few weeks ago. They don’t get the glamour of an Unpacked event, but are often quietly Samsung’s best-selling phones.

What’s the deal?

The Galaxy A17 5G normally sells for £199 in the only model available in the UK, but you can already save £30 (or 15%) with a choice of all three colours (blue is the best).

You can get this price on the A17 from various retailers, though it may well expire at the end of Cyber Monday – i.e. midnight tonight.

Find it at the official Samsung store, Currys, Argos, Very, John Lewis, and Laptops Direct.

If you don’t need 5G connectivity, then you can get the Galaxy A17 4G with a £39.01 discount (23% off in this case), taking it down to just £129.99. It’s almost identical in design and specs, so it could prove even more of a bargain.

However, it’s only currently available at this price from Argos and John Lewis, with the Samsung store, Currys and Very pricing it at £139 instead.

Why buy it?

I just reviewed the Galaxy A17 5G just a few weeks ago, and it’s only been on the market since August. Although I gave it a score of 7/10, this was largely down to Samsung’s lack of innovation compared to its predecessor. It still ranks at number two in our budget phone chart.

It comes in at the same RRP but apart from minor design tweaks and adding stabilisation to the main camera, it’s exactly the same phone.

That means you shouldn’t upgrade if you already have a Galaxy A16 5G and I’d like to have seen more improvements from Samsung, but this phone is still an excellent budget choice, especially at these discounted prices.

It’s very stylish and impressively thin and light for a phone with a large 6.7-inch screen, which is bold and colourful by the way. That stabilisation helps the main camera get better results and you should be able to get two days of battery life, too.

This is a budget phone, so don’t expect much from the secondary cameras and performance is nothing to write home about, but it’s perfectly fine for basic daily tasks.

Importantly, Samsung’s One UI interface is pleasant to use and you get a whopping six years of software support – including security patches and new versions of Android.
