Christian parents are issuing strong warnings to other families about the newest season of Stranger Things, saying that some scenes are deeply inappropriate for younger viewers. The series, rated 14A, released the first part of Season 5 on Netflix on Wednesday night. The opening sequence has drawn concern from the likes of Jack and Tanya Tay Posobiec, for what they describe as a graphic and disturbing depiction involving a child character in a “pedophilic” scene.

The scene shows a flashback of 11-year-old Will Byers, portrayed by Noah Schnapp, during his abduction into the show’s extra-dimensional realm known as the Upside Down. After hiding from the creatures that inhabit the space, Byers is discovered and knocked unconscious by the main antagonist, Vecna. Vecna then summons a tentacle-like appendage that is forced into Byers’ mouth, delivering alien slug-like organisms into his body — a storyline that connects back to the end of Season 1, when a rescued Byers later coughs up one of the creatures.

The sequence shows the tentacle scene at length, with Vecna speaking to Byers while the act occurs. Byers can be heard gagging while the disturbing scene takes place. While a brief version of the moment was previously shown in Season 1, Season 5 presents a longer and more graphic depiction.

One user examined it as: “So I watched it carefully. 1) They don’t show where the tentacle sprang from so we have to…imagine.  2) They play up the gulping sound. 3) The creature/man strokes his cheek lovingly saying the world “beautiful.” Whether intentional or not, a definite message comes across.”

In addition to the violent content, the show includes LGBTQ themes. The character Robin, played by Maya Hawke, is portrayed as a lesbian, and Will Byers has been written with indications that he is gay. The second episode of season 5 shows a scene where Hawke and her on-screen partner begin getting handsy in a hospital, while Byers peaks through a door to watch before dropping a can of Coke, thus interrupting the scene.

“Of course they had to throw in a random lesbian scene with the kids. It added nothing to the story and felt completely out of place like they were just checking a box instead of focusing on the actual plot. It’s so frustrating when the industry forces unnecessary moments instead of prioritizing good storytelling, especially in content meant for kids,” wrote Tanya Tay Posobiec of the scene.

Posobiec wrote on X, “The very first scene of Stranger Things season 5 is a young child getting raped in the mouth. Netflix knows that millions of kids watch this. They do it on purpose.”

Human Events Daily producer Angelo Fazio agreed, writing: “This is a boomer divide here. Tentacle rape has been a subculture of hentai porn for decades. They’ll say “there is no rape, it’s simulated violence”and will note the CGI Will and CGI, Vecna controlled tentacle that violated Will.”

“The tentacle aspect lends itself to the twisted world of hentai porn and anime culture — freaks get off on this content and it’s exacerbated by overprescribed anxiety medication, antidepressants, hormone therapy. It’s anti human same as furry porn and beastiality” said Fazio.

“They had him stick his tendril down the captured boy’s mouth and start pumping,” Posobiec said in another post. Tanya Tay Posobiec would also say in a post, “What is Stranger Things doing with this scene of a little boy getting raped??? Sick!!”

“Brought to you by the ‘Cuties’ people,” wrote Inhumans coauthor Joshua Lisec.
