JUST IN: Trump Makes Endorsement In NYC Mayoral Race
President Donald Trump issued a last-minute endorsement in the New York City mayoral race, in which he urged voters to consider the consequences of electing a pro-communist candidate in the race’s frontrunner, Zohran Mamdani.
“If Communist Candidate Zohran Mamdani wins the Election for Mayor of New York City, it is highly unlikely that I will be contributing Federal Funds, other than the very minimum as required, to my beloved first home, because of the fact that, as a Communist, this once great City has ZERO chance of success, or even survival! It can only get worse with a Communist at the helm, and I don’t want to send, as President, good money after bad,” the president wrote in a Truth Social post on Monday, just over 24 hours before polls are set to close.
Trump went on to predict that the Big Apple will become a, “Complete and Total Economic and Social Disaster,” should Mamdani come out on top. “His principles have been tested for over a thousand years, and never once have they been successful. I would much rather see a Democrat, who has had a Record of Success, WIN, than a Communist with no experience and a Record of COMPLETE AND TOTAL FAILURE,” the president continued.
Trump then turned his attention to Curtis Sliwa, a perennial Republican candidate and founder of the Guardian Angels community watch group. “We must also remember this — A vote for Curtis Sliwa (who looks much better without the beret!) is a vote for Mamdani,” the post went on.
To that end, President Trump announced that he will be endorsing former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, a longtime rival. “Whether you personally like Andrew Cuomo or not, you really have no choice. You must vote for him, and hope he does a fantastic job. He is capable of it, Mamdani is not!”
Cuomo is currently running an independent campaign against Mamdani after coming up short against him in the Democratic Party primary earlier this year. While polling averages project a Mamdani victory, a number of last-minute surveys from highly regarded pollsters have painted the picture of a much closer race.
One such poll from AtlasIntel — a Brazil-based polling outfit that holds the distinction of being the mast accurate pollster of the 2020 and 2024 presidential election cycles — found Mamdani receiving 43.9 percent of the vote with Cuomo trailing close behind at 39.4 percent. Sliwa trails in a distant third with 15.5 percent, while an additional one percent remaining undecided.
The survey of a little more than 2,400 voters was conducted between Friday and Sunday and carries a two-point margin of error.
President Trump is not the only unlikely backer of Cuomo’s campaign, as several prominent right-wing and moderate Democrat figures have also endorsed him. Tech billionaire Elon Musk joined Trump in issuing a late endorsement of Cuomo on Monday, telling any of his 228 million X followers in New York City to make sure they get out and vote.
“Bear in mind that a vote for Curtis is really a vote for Mumdumi or whatever his name is,” Musk wrote. “VOTE CUOMO!”
