CDM has reported extensively on the persecution of the Armenian Apostolic Church by the government of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

The attack on Christianity in Armenia became very real just now as an important bishop was sentenced to two years in prison.

Archbishop Mikael Ajapahyan was arrested in June and accused of being part of an alleged coup plot against the government of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

The cleric was found guilty on Sept. 24 of calling for the government to be overthrown. His lawyer, Ara Zohrabyan, condemned the verdict as being politically motivated, reported ABC News.

Ajapahyan was prosecuted for merely expressing an opinion, said Zohrabyan, who vowed to appeal the verdict.

PM Pashinyan was in The White House with President Trump earlier this year to celebrate a peace deal with Azerbaijan, after decades of conflict.

On September 24, the court had issued its verdict in the criminal case against Ajapahian, and found him guilty under Section 2 of Article 422 of the Criminal Code of Armenia—that is, making public calls for seizing power, violating territorial integrity, renouncing sovereignty, or forcibly overthrowing the constitutional order in Armenia

And the preventive measure of detention had been left unchanged, with its limitations.

According to the indictment, Archbishop Mikael Ajapahian is charged with making public calls to seize power in Armenia during his several interviews with the mass media, reported News.am.

This type of religious repression has not taken place in Armenia since the fall of the Soviet Union.

Pashinyan is following the globalist agenda with attacks on Christianity, importation of third world immigrants and he is accused of throwing the war in Karabakh in Azerbaijan’s favor, with the associated loss of Christian territory and heritage in the region.
