In a Tuesday press release, the Florida GOP decried remarks posted on social media by Leon County School Board member Darryl Jones about Charlie Kirk.
Conservative activist Charlie Kirk was shot and killed Sept. 10 while speaking at a Utah University as part of his American Comeback tour. Since his death, several conservative activists have sought to identify social media users whose posts about Kirk they view as offensive or celebratory.
The Florida GOP is now calling out a now-deleted comment Jones posted on Facebook after Florida Department of Education Commissioner Anastasios Kamoutas sent a letter to Florida K-12 public schools that said teachers will be investigated, could lose their certifications, and be fired if they post “despicable comments on social media ” about Kirk.
“The problem is that the Commissioner of Education, from his lofty position, found it necessary to inform an entire profession that it should not comment on the murder of a racist, misogynist, homophobic Klansman in negative terms,” Jones posted.
