0

The band is just getting started—or is it the end of the road? Fans are already buzzing about whether The Runarounds will score a Season 2 on Prime Video, or if the streamer will crush dreams again by canceling another fan-favorite after just one season.

The coming-of-age teen drama, set in Wilmington, North Carolina, follows a group of recent high school grads who chase their rock star dreams. By the end of Season 1, Charlie Cooper and his crew defied the odds and landed a record deal, but with so much unfinished business, viewers are dying to know: will the story continue?

Keep reading for everything we know about the future of The Runarounds.

Has ‘The Runarounds’ Season 2 Been Confirmed?

As of now, Prime Video has not officially renewed the show for a second season.

Still, there’s reason for fans to stay hopeful. Not only are the stars of the show—William Lipton, Axel Ellis, Jeremy Yun, Zendé Murdock and Jesse Golliher—real-life musicians, but they’re also about to hit the road on a U.S. tour. That kind of buzz could easily help fuel demand for more episodes.

Plus, with Outer Banks co-creator Jonas Pate running the show, it already has a built-in fanbase that wants more.

What Have the Creators Said About Season 2?

Showrunner Jonas Pate is optimistic about the band’s future—both on screen and off. In an interview with Black Film and TV, he teased that new music is already in the works:

“It’s all going to be their music. They write all their own songs. I totally anticipate that they’ll release records in between seasons just as a band,” he said. “In fact, they’ve already started writing this record that they want to release before a potential season two. They’re super prolific. They write like crazy. All five of them can write songs, so it’s not like one guy is the songwriter. So it’s just, it’s fun to be around, man. It’s a lot of youthful energy.”

So, even without a Season 2 green light (yet!), fans can look forward to plenty of music from the group in the meantime.

Could the Band Succeed Without the Show?

In another interview with Michael Fairman, Pate doubled down on the group’s staying power, saying he believes they’ll thrive no matter what.

“They have an album that’s released on the same day. It’s a 17-track album that’s coming out from Arista. They have a tour lined up it’s all totally real. I think they’ll be able to put out records in between seasons that aren’t related to the show. They’ve already started writing a bunch of songs for that record. The band would make it without a TV show. I feel like they would succeed anyway, just because the band’s good.”
