The life story of Joe Gruters is full of family, and hard drive. Some call it ambition.
His granddad moved to Florida to make tents for Barnam and Bailey. His family were working class and they worked. It is said that Joe listened to Rush Limbaugh, instead of ‘90’s “grunge music” on the car radio as his mom drove him to swim practice. He was one of twins and had a speech impediment, but was of strong focus, even earned extra credit by attending a Dan Quayle rally with perfect strangers.
He’d caught the political bug.

Joe Gruters is a politically ambitious man. Having just turned 47 years old, he has been in Florida politics for 18 years. As Chair of the RPOF from 2021 – 23, he was given credit for the increase in Republicans registered on the voter rolls.
That increase came, instead, largely from the voter roll cleanup program designed and shared by The Peoples Audit and Kris Jurski, with every county Supervisor of Elections for them to use, if they chose. Jurski’s computer program was based on removal of invalid mailing addresses and nothing more.
I often wonder why nobody in the RPOF wondered about the Florida voter rolls being at 101.6% of all possible citizens of voting age, right after DeSantis joined David Becker’s ERIC (Electronic Registration Information Center) in 2019.
Joe could have. He was chair during that period. Cord Byrd, the Secretary of State, loved ERIC (his own words) and would never leave. Until Florida did. That’s another story, which I’ve already told. Have to wonder where was Mr. Gruters during that.
Gruters, a longtime Trump ally, currently represents the Sarasota area in the Florida Senate and serves as RNC treasurer. He previously led the Republican Party of Florida and co-chaired Trump’s 2016 campaign operations in the state alongside Susie Wiles, now the White House chief of staff.
I think that, possibly, Joe has learned to play both sides. I have always wondered about Susie.
For example, in 2017-18, Joe filed a bill protecting LGBTQ rights, but then, SB 1126 which critics (LGBTQ fans) said would threaten hard-won municipal or county ordinances which protected LGBT+ employees in Florida from discrimination.
A Sarasota Herald-Tribune editor warned that “the road is littered with those who have underestimated Gruters”. Joe is ranked, by some, as one of the most powerful men in Florida politics. He describes himself as a “disruptor”.
I find myself hoping that Donald Trump isn’t one of Gruters’ roadkill. I don’t know Joe Gruters that well, only what I read, but I know that nobody succeeds in getting the best of Donald Trump these days.
I can’t help thinking of Gruters as the man whose accounting office in Venice, FL, was the one associated with the printing of the Fake Voter Guides in the 2024 primaries. Remember those? The ones who falsely advertised Tallahassee’s choice of candidates for offices in seven different counties as MAGA. The fake voter guides got many RPOF RINO’s elected to local office, because voters saw the MAGA stuff and assumed Trump endorsement.

These fake voter guides are being sent to voters in six Florida counties, to date. They list the candidates who are supposedly endorsed by Trump and DeSantis, and they are advocating for candidates who are NOT real MAGA supporters.

Joe Gruters. If you are everything they say, HOW AND WHY did you get involved in the Fake Guides?? Does Donald Trump KNOW about those voter guides, put out with his picture and MAGA tag, advertising candidates who were anything BUT??
I know you are supposed to be a good guy and strong Trump supporter. I will not really believe that unless and until you man up and explain.
Moreover, why are you silent about the DOGE invasion of Manatee County, after all the RPOF has done to them? They are in your jurisdiction, and full of those MAGA people you supposedly support.
I don’t know, Joe. Somehow you make a lot of us uncomfortable.
