Trump’s Comms Director Wrecks Swalwell with Spy Scandal Burn
Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) was obliterated by White House Communications Director Steven Cheung after he tried to attack President Trump and defend Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell.
On Thursday, President Donald Trump visited the Federal Reserve headquarters in Washington, D.C., to examine the new construction on Powell’s costly renovation.
Powell is now under fire for the price of renovating the Fed’s headquarters, which ballooned from $1.9 billion to $2.5 billion—and possibly higher if you include the additional building already renovated as part of the project.
The project will cost upwards of $3.1 billion, according to official Federal Reserve documents.
The fiery exchange between Trump and Powell occurred when the Fed Chairman tried to argue with the president about the building renovation costs in front of the cameras.
When Powell tried to deny the $3.1 billion figure, Trump came prepared with receipts.
Powell admitted he does not expect additional cost overruns but added, “we’re ready for them,” and “we have a little bit of a reserve that we may use.”
Swalwell attempted to own Trump by posting a viral image of a confused Jerome Powell with the caption, “When my wife tells me we’re actually saving money with Rent the Runway.”
Rent the Runway is an e-commerce platform that allows users to subscribe to periodic clothing deliveries.
The implication was that Trump was wrong and Powell was baffled by his calculation.
Cheung fired back with a brutal response, correcting the caption by highlighting Swalwell’s infamous history of sleeping with a Chinese spy.
“When you look at a print out of your text exchange with Fang Fang,” Cheung wrote.
