Motherhood No Longer Gets the Respect it Deserves

The pregnant woman hustled into the pew with two toddlers and her husband in tow.

It was truly impressive how she was able to manage her little ones, quieting them with abundant hugs.

As I sat in the church behind her, I silently gave thanks for this beautiful family and the witness of love they provided to the congregation.

Far too often in this troubled world, motherhood is not given the respect it deserves. I believe that lack of respect is at the root of legalized abortion. For, if you truly respected pregnant mothers, why on earth would you champion the loss of their precious children? It is a sickness that has pervaded our country for decades, but there is evidence the tide is turning.

The fall of the U.S. Supreme Court decision known as Roe v. Wade was an important first step. The Dobbs ruling overturning Roe opined that there is no federal right to abortion under the U.S. Constitution.

The rise of pregnancy medical clinics and resource centers is another key element in the campaign to restore a culture of life. These facilities offer true hope to women, free of cost. Their caring counselors and medical professionals provide the ultimate in compassionate care for women who may be facing the greatest challenges of their lives.

Local grassroots chapters of National Right to Life are also essential to pro-life culture. For they educate in their local communities—not only about fetal development, but also about the range of free services and resources available to pregnant women in need.

Honoring mothers is critical to rebuilding a culture of life. The next time you see a pregnant woman in church, why not offer her your kindness and support? We can rebuild our nation, one heart at a time.
