Pro-Trump Golfer Undergoes Emergency Surgery
John Daly has been no stranger to the spotlight. The larger-than-life golf legend, known for his bold personality on and off the course, is once again in the news—but this time, for a very different reason. The two-time major champion and outspoken supporter of President-elect Donald Trump revealed via Instagram that he recently underwent emergency hand surgery.
Daly shared an image of his heavily bandaged hand, captioning the post with gratitude for his surgeon, Dr. McClimans, and optimism for a swift return to the fairways. “Emergency hand surgery…thankful went great & Doc McClimans for taking care of me. Be back playing in no time!” Daly wrote. “Should be hitting em again soon! Thx for all the messages,” Daly added in a separate post.
Though details about the injury remain sparse, fans of the 57-year-old golfer were quick to flood the comments with well-wishes and words of encouragement. Daly, who has long maintained a cult-like following for his eccentric style, booming drives, and unfiltered commentary, appeared to be in good spirits despite the setback. The charismatic golfer, who has made headlines for everything from his wild outfits to his vocal support of Trump, often weaves his political stance into his public persona.
The larger-than-life golfer, known for his bold personality and unconventional style, has often crossed paths with Donald Trump. The two have shared a mutual admiration, with Daly publicly praising Trump on several occasions. Daly has been a guest at Trump-owned golf courses and has voiced his support for Trump’s presidency. Trump, an avid golfer himself, has reciprocated by hosting Daly at events and acknowledging his unique contributions to the world of golf.
In an episode of Tucker Carlson’s show on X back in December 2023, Daly opened up about his political views and his long-standing relationship with Trump. “He was a great president…He’s a great guy once you get to know him,” Daly told Carlson. “I’ve known him since the early 90s… Unbelievable smart individual that people got to get behind.”
“I pray to God he wins… Just for the satisfaction of bringing our country back together, get some common sense going in here again… How great was our country in the four years he was in office?” Daly continued. “We all want daddy Trump back…He flew his helicopter in. We played a pro-am. We went out back. We talked a little bit. When he stood up, he says, ‘Mark my words, I’ll be president of the United States one day.’”
Daly burst onto the golf scene by winning the 1991 PGA Championship as a relatively unknown player. He became a fan favorite due to his unorthodox swing and long-driving ability. He won the 1995 Open Championship at St. Andrews, securing his place as one of the most talented players of his era. Known for being a “grip it and rip it” player, Daly’s driving distance revolutionized the game and inspired many younger players. He is famous for his flamboyant outfits, often wearing bright, patterned clothing on the course.
